Soori recalls a hurtful incident with a big hero and director
The ‘Mandaadi’ actor recently shared an incident from his early days in cinema that continues to hurt him. Speaking with Galatta, Soori recalled working on a film with a leading hero, where he had a combination scene with another popular comedian. After the shoot, the hero and director reportedly watched the footage and discussed his appearance. What happened next left Soori deeply upset. “I was called for the shooting and I had a combination scene with a big comedian. After the shoot, they saw the monitor. That big hero and the director had a discussion. They asked me to remove my shirt and gave it to another person who came through a recommendation,” Soori said.
Soori recalled the moment that hurt him
Soori said the incident became even more humiliating because the shirt belonged to him. He recalled how he was left standing with only a towel while trying to find his own clothes. “It was my own dress, but they had thrown it on the costume vehicle. I was standing with just a towel on my body and searching for my shirt. That is one incident that hurt me a lot,” he said. The actor’s recollection gives a glimpse into the kind of difficult situations he faced while trying to establish himself in the industry. For Soori, such moments were not simply professional disappointments but experiences that stayed with him emotionally.
Soori’s rise as a leading actor
The shirt incident was not the only hardship Soori faced before finding success. He has previously spoken about arriving in Chennai with very little money and taking up different jobs while looking for opportunities in cinema. He has recalled earning his first salary of just Rs 50 and even going without food when payments were delayed. Those experiences, he says, continue to drive him. “Hunger, humiliation, betrayal and pain have all happened in my life. I have got used to them. Today, I look at every success I get as an offering to those who cheated me and my family, and I keep moving forward,” Soori said.His journey from struggling for basic opportunities to leading films like ‘Mandaadi’ has now become an important part of his story, making his rise in Tamil cinema all the more significant.
