Prince William and Kate Middleton are grabbing headlines yet again, but this time, the whole thing comes with a seriously sweet twist. Full-scale, life-sized statues of the royal couple – built completely out of edible cake, just stole the spotlight at a massive baking expo over in Birmingham, UK.These jaw-dropping creations are the brainchild of master cake sculptor Emma Jayne, who painstakingly recreated the Prince and Princess of Wales decked out in full royal attire. Between the hyper-realistic facial features and the tiny details stitched into their outfits, the baked figures look almost unnaturally like the actual royals. The sculptures were officially revealed at Cake International, a huge annual convention hosted at Birmingham’s NEC arena. This year’s show kicked off on November 6 and runs right through November 8.Taking to Instagram, the event organizers posted photos of the jaw-dropping display, highlighting it as the newest piece in Jayne’s expanding line of royal-themed cake art.“Our Resident Artist @emmajaynecakedesign’s royal collection continues to grow with her breathtaking life-size tribute to The Prince and Princess of Wales,” the organizers shared online. To pull off a project of this scale, Jayne teamed up with three big names in the baking and decorating world: Rainbow Dust (a UK brand known for specialty cake colors), Squires Kitchen (a go-to for professional baking gear), and The Cake Decorating Company.Breaking down what went into the exhibit, the event crew couldn’t stop raving about the insane level of precision on display.“From the remarkable likenesses to the intricate details of their attire, every element has been meticulously crafted to bring the royal couple to life in cake form,” they noted. They even cracked a quick joke about how normal folks could finally get way closer to the royals than usual, telling attendees to take their time, stare as much as they wanted, and snap a ton of photos.Turns out William and Kate weren’t the only familiar faces turned into dessert at this year’s convention, either. Popular British TV hosts Claudia Winkleman and Alison Hammond also got their very own edible lookalikes on the show floor. The rest of the convention was packed with wild, imaginative pieces from top-tier decorators. Visitors wandered past everything from a fully frosted fairy forest to a massive pirate queen ship, proving that modern cake design has moved way beyond basic birthday sheet cakes.Cake International pulls in talent from every corner of the globe, and the 2026 lineup is no exception. According to the event’s official site, several prominent cake artists from India are competing this year, including Neetha Syam, Diya Pal, Arati Mirji, and Tina Scott Parashar.Between life-sized royal lookalikes, celebrity cake busts, and sprawling edible landscapes, this year’s show gave visitors plenty of reasons to stand around and marvel at what’s actually possible with flour and sugar.
