Kannada star Yash’s latest release ‘Toxic’ has been receiving mixed reactions since its theatrical release on August 26. As the film completes its first week in cinemas, ‘Kantara’ music composer Ajaneesh Loknath has supported the film, urging audiences to experience it for themselves before forming an opinion based solely on reviews. In his post, he also brought up Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ to highlight how a film’s reception can vary depending on the time and context in which it is released.

Ajaneesh Loknath took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a detailed note about ‘Toxic’, urging people not to form an opinion about the film simply by reading reviews.“Don’t just read reviews. Experience cinema. I watched Toxic, and I liked it,” he wrote.The composer pointed out that cinema is subjective and that different viewers can have vastly different experiences with the same film.“I feel people should go and watch it in theatres. Cinema is a personal experience. My taste, my thought process and my experience can be completely different from someone else’s,” he added.Ajaneesh further recalled enjoying several films despite negative reviews, while also admitting that he has missed some good films because of unfavourable opinions.He also urged audiences to be mindful before judging a film, stressing that its success or failure affects not just the lead actors and producers but also the numerous technicians and crew members who work behind the scenes.“When a film doesn’t do well, it is not only the producer or the actors who suffer. Hundreds of technicians and crew members, who work incredibly hard, are also affected for many years,” he wrote.

Speaking specifically about ‘Toxic’, the ‘Maharaja’ composer praised the team’s attempt and singled out Yash for taking on a different kind of character.“About Toxic. I really liked the attempt and especially Yash’s performance. I truly appreciate him for choosing this kind of character and story. Yes, there are a few small things that didn’t work for me, but they are easily ignorable. Overall, it’s a very good film,” Ajaneesh wrote.Yash not only headlines ‘Toxic’ but has also co-written and produced the film.

Ajaneesh Loknath also referenced Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ while discussing how films can be judged differently depending on the period in which they are released. Although he did not directly compare the two films, he used ‘Lagaan’ as an example of how contemporary reactions could potentially shape the perception of a film.“I imagined—if it had released today, people would have commented, ‘lag’, ‘boring’, and reduced the whole story to, ‘there will be a match, India will challenge the British, the match will happen—that’s it.’ We might have missed a truly great film just because of irresponsible opinions,” he wrote.He concluded his post by reiterating his belief that audiences should experience films themselves rather than relying entirely on reviews.“Reviews are opinions, not your experience. If a film interests you, go to the theatre, watch it yourself and then form your own opinion,” he wrote.
