'In Hindus, divorce doesn't exist,' says Govinda as he reveals why Sunita Ahuja took back her plea, says someone is influencing her: 'To steal your luck, they steal your woman'

Govinda has spoken about the ongoing strain in his marriage to Sunita Ahuja, alleging that someone is influencing his wife and reacting to her decision to withdraw her divorce petition. Sunita had filed for divorce at the Bandra family court in Mumbai in December 2024 but reportedly withdrew the plea a couple of months ago. The actor has now shared his perspective on their relationship and the circumstances surrounding their marital differences.“She took back her divorce plea. She’d have to,” Govinda said in a recent interview. “We’re Hindus. The word ‘divorce’ doesn’t exist in our household,” he added. The actor also pointed out that although Sunita had been considering ending their marriage, she continued to live in one of his properties rather than formally moving out.“She can come back only if she ever left in the first place. I don’t believe anyone can leave me unless I want them to. Whichever house you want to play in, it belongs to me. You’re always lying around in my house.” He went on to suggest that others were influencing Sunita’s decisions, saying, “To steal your luck, they steal your woman,” he said in an interview with ABP Live. The actor also spoke about how easily, in his view, a woman could be persuaded by others. “Just tell her, ‘How will this lead to your children’s welfare?’ and she’d buy into that,” he said. Govinda claimed that while he often turns to women for advice, he did not consider himself in a position to change Sunita’s perspective. “I just know whatever she’s doing, she’s doing for our children’s welfare,” he said.Govinda further suggested that attempting to persuade his wife to resolve their differences might not yield any results. Explaining his stance, he said, “I’m okay to be where I am right now because I feel if I budge, I’d cast a doubt on my own energy. I won’t do something to defame anyone. Why? Because I don’t see any progress there. It’s just a game, and I have to play along,” he said, smiling.Although he refrained from identifying the people he believes are influencing Sunita, Govinda maintained that others were involved. “No doubt there’ll be some people behind this. But I’ve never gone around looking,” he said. He then issued a warning to those he believes are behind the situation, adding, “I dare them to confront me. Do you think if they confront me, I won’t hurt them so badly that they won’t remember me for generations to come?”Sunita has reportedly accused Govinda of being involved with Komal Rani, his much younger co-star in his upcoming home production, ‘Roopa’. The actor has denied having affairs with his former co-stars. Addressing the allegations, he said, “I’ve had four heroines like Miss Universe. But I haven’t engaged with them beyond greetings. Maybe I should’ve. It would’ve been nice. Then we’d have partied and had fun together.” He then added jokingly, “I regret it very much. If I get the chance today, I’d go for it.”However, Govinda also spoke about his personal life more seriously, claiming that he had not engaged in any extramarital affairs until at least the age of 37. Recalling a conversation with Sunita following his mother’s death, he said she had expressed a desire to live life on her own terms after getting married at a young age.“My mom had passed then, and Sunita asked me, ‘I’ve never been able to live my life on my own terms. I got married into your house right out of school. I want to live life on my own terms now. I want freedom,’” Govinda recalled. He further claimed, “She stepped outside of marriage somewhere in that freedom. I told her, ‘When you’d come back, you won’t find me the way I am now.’ She said, ‘No problem.’ I didn’t have to ask anyone else in the whole world except her, and she said, ‘No problem,’” he added.Govinda, who married Sunita when he was 23 and she was 18, described her as his “first love”. Reflecting on their relationship, he said, “She didn’t get carried away. She wanted to live life the way she wants to. I or anybody else doesn’t have the right to ask her about that, unless she wants to share. She had lived the way I wanted to. She probably got fed up with it. So, she wanted freedom, and freedom of the next level,” he claimed.
