Four teenagers have been charged after a stolen luxury SUV allegedly crashed head-on into a car in New Jersey, killing a 67-year-old woman and her longtime partner during a police pursuit.The teens allegedly stole a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon valued at about USD 220,000 and took it for a joyride before speeding down the wrong side of the road and crashing into a Hyundai sedan near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing, according to NJ.com.The crash killed Robert Barr Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, both from Egg Harbor Township, prosecutors said. Their car was sent careening into a nearby gas station following the impact.Police had first spotted the stolen Mercedes in Longport at about 3.40am on Saturday and attempted to pull it over.The vehicle allegedly sped away across the JFK Memorial Bridge, prompting police in neighbouring areas to be alerted.Officers later spotted the SUV in Hamilton Township at around 7.45am and gave chase. Police eventually lost sight of the vehicle, but prosecutors said the teens were allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road when they collided with the couple’s car minutes later.The four suspects were found near the wreck and arrested after allegedly trying to flee on foot. Authorities said they were largely unhurt in the crash.Nayshaun Brown, 18, and three other teens, who were not identified because they are minors, face charges including joyriding, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and eluding police. Prosecutors have not said who was driving the Mercedes when the fatal crash occurred.Stilwell was described as a beloved mother and grandmother, while Barr was identified as her longtime partner in a GoFundMe campaign launched to help the family with funeral expenses.
