Country music icon, Dolly Parton is being honoured with her own special day in New York City.Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal has officially proclaimed Friday, September 25, 2026, or 9/25, a reference to Parton’s signature 1980 hit track Dolly ‘9 to 5’, as Dolly Parton Appreciation Day in Manhattan.

“I am officially declaring 9/25 (“9 to 5”) as Dolly Parton Appreciation Day in the Borough of Manhattan,” Hoylman-Sigal said in a proclamation shared in a September 2 post on Threads.As per People, the proclamation celebrates Parton’s “timeless songs, groundbreaking performances, and her distinctive voice and spirit,” and highlights her work supporting children, literacy and education. The declaration also honours the singer’s “contributions to the Society” and celebrates her “extraordinary life, legacy, and lasting contributions.”The Manhattan proclamation comes amid an outpouring of tributes to Parton following her death on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Jane Fonda remembers Dolly Parton
Fonda, in a recent interview, recalled how Parton took her under her wing while she was preparing for her role in the 1984 film ‘The Dollmaker’. She said, “I spent 10 days with her on a tour bus. Touring Appalachia, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas because I was about to play a hillbilly. Dolly’s the only hillbilly I knew, so she helped me find a hillbilly that I could base my character on.”She remembered visiting remote communities in Tennessee and Arkansas where people lived in “tarpaper shacks with no electricity or running water”, saying Parton was warmly welcomed because of the respect she showed them.“And they loved her so much, that they accepted my presence. And it was so clear that she absolutely respected them,” Fonda said and also credited Parton with teaching her the importance of acknowledging and respecting fans, as per the outlet.“That was why there was so much love. She never played down, she always was pulled together, she was always who she was out of respect for her fans,” Fonda said. “She knew from the get-go who she was.”
Dolly Parton laid to rest in private funeral
Parton was laid to rest near her husband, Carl Thomas Dean. The singer’s family gathered for a private funeral at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
