Amitabh Bachchan is set to build a memorial dharamshala in Ayodhya to honour his late father, renowned poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan. An application seeking approval for the building layout has already been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA).

Details of the proposed Dharamshala

According to the India Today report, the planned structure will house more than 20 rooms and is coming up on land the actor acquired for around Rs 15 crore within ‘The Sarayu’ project along Dashrath Path. The ADA has released a public notice calling for objections to the submitted layout within a 15-day period, following which official approval will be issued. Once cleared, construction work is likely to begin in October.Speaking on the development, ADA Vice Chairman Anurag Jain noted that several well-known personalities from across the country are playing a part in Ayodhya’s growth. He confirmed that Bachchan’s application for a 20-plus room dharamshala has been received and is presently open for public feedback, adding that the layout will be approved after due process to offer better amenities for devotees visiting the city.

More about Harivansh Rai Bachchan

Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a celebrated Hindi poet and translator, honoured with the Padma Bhushan. He remains best known for his iconic 1935 poem Madhushala and his Hindi translations of Shakespeare’s works. His wife, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist and stage performer who later served as director of the Film Finance Corporation of India.

Amitabh Bachchan’s current projects

On the work front, Bachchan is currently hosting ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 18’, with the first episode featuring Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta promoting their film ‘Batwara 1947’. His last theatrical release was Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth, followed by ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. The 83-year-old actor will next appear in ‘Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2’, with the female lead yet to be announced following Deepika Padukone’s exit from the project.
