Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s action-packed spy thriller Alpha is making its way to OTT, giving audiences another opportunity to watch the YRF Spy Universe film from home. The movie, which marked the franchise’s first female-led entry, will begin streaming from August 28.Netflix announced the digital premiere on August 27 with a post that read, “Get ready to join the Alpha gang ❤️🔥Watch Alpha, out 28 August, on Netflix!”Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha hit theatres on July 3, 2026. The film features Alia as Sita, a highly trained R&AW agent who is being prepared to become an Alpha soldier, while Sharvari plays Durga Kaul, Sita’s estranged fraternal twin.The story takes a darker turn with Bobby Deol as Colonel Fateh Singh Lakhawat, the antagonist behind experiments involving a powerful serum known as Alpha. Sita is kidnapped and brought under his control, eventually being transformed into a super-soldier. The official plot summary reads: “Driven by revenge, a young girl destroys anyone in her path until her journey uncovers the hidden truths of her own life. She is bold, cold, and ready to cross any line, hurting anyone who stands in her way”.The film also features Anil Kapoor and includes a special appearance by Hrithik Roshan, who reprises his War character Kabir.Despite being a significant addition to the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha had a relatively modest theatrical run and received a mixed response to its storyline. Reportedly made on a ₹100 crore budget, the film collected around ₹58.86 crore net in India. Its overseas earnings stood at approximately ₹29.05 crore, taking its worldwide gross to about ₹99.10 crore.The film finished its theatrical run as the eighth highest-grossing Bollywood release of 2026 and became the lowest-grossing film in the YRF Spy Universe so far.With Alpha, the franchise expanded to its seventh instalment. The YRF Spy Universe began with Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), Pathaan (2023), Tiger 3 (2023), and War 2 (2025).
