Bollywood’s interest in the superhero genre appears to be growing, with several major stars and filmmakers exploring stories in the space. While Salman Khan is reportedly collaborating with Raj and DK on a superhero project, Aamir Khan is now said to be in early discussions for another ambitious superhero venture. According to a new report, the potential project could bring Aamir together with filmmaker R Balki and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

Aamir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and R Balki reportedly in talks

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Aamir Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala are discussing a superhero film that could be directed by R Balki. However, the project is currently at a very early stage, with the script yet to be locked. The report suggests that the team is expected to take the project forward only once the writing develops into a more concrete and well-defined screenplay. This could reportedly take a few more months, meaning there is still a long way to go before the project reaches the production stage.

Aamir Khan, R Balki and Sajid Nadiadwala collaboration would be a first

If the project eventually takes shape, it would mark Aamir Khan’s first collaboration with both Sajid Nadiadwala and R Balki. Balki, known for films such as ‘Cheeni Kum’, ‘Paa’, ‘Ki & Ka’ and ‘Pad Man’, has largely explored character-driven dramas and socially rooted stories. His potential move into the superhero genre would therefore mark a significant departure from his previous body of work. For Aamir, meanwhile, a superhero film would represent another new territory, particularly if the reported project is eventually mounted as a large-scale pan-India production.

No official confirmation on Aamir Khan’s superhero film yet

It is important to note that there has been no official confirmation of the project from Aamir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala or R Balki. Aamir is also not officially attached to the film at this stage, with discussions reportedly still in the preliminary phase. The development comes amid recent speculation surrounding Aamir’s involvement in other major Bollywood franchises. He was previously rumoured to be part of Race 4, but producer Ramesh Taurani and Tips Films denied the reports, stating that no casting had been finalised for the franchise.

R Balki had once called working with the Khans ‘impractical’

The reported collaboration also carries an interesting connection to an earlier comment made by R Balki. Nearly a decade ago, the filmmaker had spoken about the difficulty of working with Bollywood’s biggest stars, including the Khans, describing such collaborations as impractical at the time. If the current discussions eventually result in a film, Balki could now be set to work with Aamir Khan after all. However, for now, the project remains firmly in the development stage and will depend on the screenplay taking a shape that satisfies all the parties involved.

Aamir Khan’s upcoming projects

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan has several projects in development. He is currently associated with ‘Lalkaara’, an Ashutosh Gowariker-directed sports drama based around the 1952 India-Pakistan Test series. The actor is also expected to be involved in the development of a sequel to ‘3 Idiots’, with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.
