If you thought modak couldn’t get any bigger, Pune has something to show you.A massive 251-kg modak-shaped cake was offered to Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati in Pune during Ganeshotsav 2026, turning heads at one of the city’s most famous festival pandals, as reported by ANI.And there’s a twist. This wasn’t a traditional modak made from the usual ingredients. The giant offering was a rasmalai-flavoured cake, prepared by Pune-based WS Bakers as a special offering to Bappa.The cake was brought to the Prem Mandir-themed pandal on Friday morning, where it was placed before the Ganpati idol during the rituals. Devotees gathered around to catch a glimpse of the enormous offering and click pictures.Once the rituals were over, the giant cake was taken out and later distributed as prasad.
40 to 50 people worked on the giant cake
Making something this huge wasn’t a one-person job.According to WS Bakers director Vikas Agarwal, around 40 to 50 people worked on the 251-kg cake. This is also the bakery’s second consecutive year of making a special offering for Dagdusheth Ganpati.The idea was to bring together two things closely associated with celebrations: the traditional modak offered to Lord Ganesha and the modern celebration cake.So instead of making an ordinary cake, the team gave it the shape of a modak.
Why is Dagdusheth Ganpati’s pandal getting attention?
The giant cake arrived against an equally dramatic backdrop.This year’s Dagdusheth Ganpati pandal has been designed around Vrindavan’s Prem Mandir. The structure is around 120 feet long, 90 feet wide and 100 feet high, with temple-inspired detailing and scenes from Lord Krishna’s life, including Rasleela and Govardhan Leela.The festival began in Pune on September 14 and the idol’s immersion is scheduled for September 25.For devotees visiting the pandal, the 251-kg cake quickly became another attraction.And after all the photographs, rituals and attention, the giant offering had a very simple ending: it was shared as prasad.
