Berry and Martinez married in 2013, the same year they welcomed their son, Maceo. Their relationship, however, didn’t last. They announced their separation in October 2015, bringing an end to a marriage that had lasted just over two years.
The split was reportedly driven in part by differences in how they wanted to live. Both had demanding careers, and their schedules left them with less time to focus on their relationship.
The couple had initially considered moving to Europe, but Berry’s existing custody arrangements involving her daughter, Nahla, complicated those plans. Martinez, who had strong ties to France, reportedly struggled with the distance and the constant attention that came with life in Hollywood.
Their divorce took years to finalise, with the proceedings continuing until August 2023. Under the settlement, they were granted joint custody of Maceo, and Berry was ordered to pay Martinez $8,000 a month in child support.
The former couple also entered court-ordered co-parenting therapy in 2024. But disagreements over their son’s upbringing and needs have continued.
