Two teenagers were killed after the car they were travelling in reportedly veered off a road bridge and crashed onto the M1 motorway in Leicestershire, colliding with a minibus below, police said.The accident took place around 1.30pm on Friday near junction 20 of the M1. According to Leicestershire Police, a blue car travelling along Gilmorton Lane towards Lutterworth left the bridge and fell onto the southbound carriageway.The vehicle then struck a white Fiat Ducato minibus that was travelling on the motorway.
Teenagers declared dead at scene
Emergency responders rushed to the spot, but both occupants of the car, identified as teenagers, were pronounced dead at the scene.Authorities have not yet released their identities.
Minibus passengers hospitalised
Four people in the minibus, including the driver and three women, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police later confirmed that the driver has been discharged, while the three women continue to receive treatment.
Emergency response and road closure
Teams from the fire and ambulance services assisted at the scene, which remained closed for several hours as forensic investigations were carried out. Traffic was severely affected, with long queues reported in the area before roads were reopened early Saturday.
Appeal for witnesses
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving in the area at the time to come forward. Investigators are particularly seeking dashcam footage from vehicles on Gilmorton Lane or the M1 around the time of the incident.The cause of the crash is under investigation.
