19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis was a Taco Bell cashier from Palatine, Illinois, who was arrested for an alleged plot for a potential mass shooting targeting a Hindu place of worship. It is not yet known which Hindu temple was the target. Paporakis’ co-workers told police they had received digital communications from Paporakis that included a document outlining the planned attack. It also had photos of tactical gear. Paporakis openly identified as a white supremacist at work and told them he couldn’t wait to kill Indian people, according to prosecutors from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.Paporakis was arrested when he was leaving his home on Sunday afternoon, the same day the attack was possibly planned.
‘Why I fought: AKA’: An eight-page manifesto
Paporakis told his Taco Bell co-workers that Sunday was going to be a special day. He called a coworker saying that he reached the target location, attempted to fire his gun at a man but the gun had jammed and he left “super fast” without being seen. The co-worker called the policeHe sent the co-worker an eight-page manifesto titled ‘Why I fought: AKA ( Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto)which described Indian, Jewish and African American people as “subhumans” and outlined a plot to kill as many of them as possible, according to a court document obtained by The Associated Press.Detectives recovered an AR style rifle without a serial number, loaded magazines and ammunition, a gas canister labeled with a slur aimed at South Asians, and a several items depicting Nazi symbolism, police and prosecutors said.
Who is Paporakis?
In his words, as mentioned in the manifesto, he is a “sociopathic white supremacist Neo Nazi filled with hatred, fantasizing about mass murder nearly every day.”He pledged he would die himself, but not before killing as many minorities as possible. The planning had been going on for two years, the prosecutors said.Prosecutors said Paporakis suffers from mental health issues and lived with his mother who they say failed to prevent him from making violent plans and purchasing a firearm.“We need to do a better job educating the public on what to look for and what to report, and we need to do a better job and provide more resources to localities so that they can rapidly take steps to prevent the shooting from occurring,” former DHS Intel chief John Cohen said.
