“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind”; William Shakespeare’s timeless words on how true love goes beyond what we see

Shakespeare is not suggesting that physical attraction has no place in love. Rather, he points towards something deeper: appearance cannot tell the whole story of a person.

Someone may look attractive but struggle to show kindness, honesty or emotional maturity. Another person may not fit conventional ideas of beauty but make others feel safe, respected and understood.

The mind, in this context, represents the feelings and perceptions that shape love. Yet this also carries a warning. Love can influence judgement, sometimes making people overlook behaviour that deserves attention. Seeing someone through the heart should not mean ignoring what their actions reveal.
