A routine food safety inspection at a luxury hotel in Delhi’s Aerocity has turned up a list of problems that’s hard to ignore. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice to Juniper Hotels Pvt Ltd, which operates Andaz Delhi, after an inspection found expired food, pest activity, poor storage practices and other food safety violations.FSSAI has now confirmed the action through its official Instagram account.“FSSAI has issued notices to Juniper Hotels Pvt Ltd (Andaz, Aerocity, Delhi) following inspections that uncovered serious food safety violations,” the regulator said in its post. The inspection was carried out on June 22, 2026, and the findings included issues with food storage, kitchen hygiene and the handling of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
87 Kg Of Expired Sweets Found
One of the more striking findings was in the hotel’s confectionery section, where around 87 kg of expired sweets were found. The products were destroyed at the time of the inspection.ID@undefined Caption not available. Two packets of bread were also found carrying expired stickers, while an expired cake base was found in the pastry section. And it wasn’t just the dates on food products that raised concerns. The inspection reportedly found flies and cockroaches in the pastry area, along with signs of pest activity and a foul smell in parts of the kitchen.
Veg And Non-Veg Food Not Properly Segregated
The inspection also flagged the way vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were being handled.Veg and non-veg cutting boards were reportedly being kept in the same water container, raising concerns about proper segregation and cross-contamination.The team also found shortcomings in the hotel’s procurement process and in checking the FSSAI licences of its food suppliers.Samples of several products, including ghee, mayonnaise, lentils and sauces, were collected during the inspection for further analysis.
FSSAI Issues Notice, Asks Hotel To Act
Following the inspection, FSSAI issued a notice to the hotel and directed it to address the non-compliances that had been identified. The regulator said regulatory and surveillance samples had been collected, with further action to be taken depending on the hotel’s compliance and the results of the sample analysis.“In the light of above observations, the FBO has been directed to take corrective actions with respect to non-compliances observed and submit report at the earliest,” FSSAI said. For now, the hotel has been asked to fix the problems and report back to the food safety authorities. The inspection findings are particularly notable because Andaz Delhi is a high-end property in Aerocity, where guests would naturally expect strict standards when it comes to food preparation, storage and hygiene. And while the inspection has identified the lapses, the final regulatory outcome will depend on the corrective action taken by the hotel and the results of the food samples collected by FSSAI.
