A story shared by content creator Anuj Mohanty on his social media series The State Startup Stories has brought attention to a Gujarat-based startup that aims to build homes without using cement. In the video, Mohanty shares the journey of founders Vedant and Aditi, and highlights how their startup, Co2ncrete, is attempting to tackle industrial waste while making home construction faster and more sustainable. According to Mohanty, the founders grew up in Gujarat, one of India’s largest industrial hubs where they regularly witnessed factory waste being dumped into landfills. This observation, he says, inspired them to explore whether the waste could be transformed into something useful instead of becoming an environmental burden.
Turning industrial waste into building blocks
Sharing the startup’s origin, Mohanty says the founders spent considerable time researching ways to reuse industrial waste before launching Co2ncrete.He claims that the company manufactures building blocks using fly ash, chemical sludge and construction waste, eliminating the need for conventional cement.According to Mohanty, these building blocks are designed to do more than simply replace traditional materials. He states that the blocks “absorb carbon and permanently lock it,” adding that this process helps reduce pollution while making construction more environmentally sustainable. This approach could significantly contribute to reducing industrial waste sent to landfills while also lowering the carbon footprint associated with conventional building materials.
Homes ready in just 15 to 30 days
A key highlight is the speed of construction. He says this startup uses a prefabricated construction system, allowing homes to be completed in 15 to 30 days.Also Mohanty said that these houses are built for around just ₹7 lakh, making them affordable housing choices. They also take much less time to construct than traditional ways do. Prefabricated construction refers to the process whereby structures are made beforehand and put together at the site of construction.

Environmental impact
According to Mohanty, Co2ncrete currently recycles hundreds of kilograms of industrial waste every day and has already built more than 450 eco-friendly homes.Moreover, he states that the operations carried out by the company have contributed to various environmental gains, which include less wastage from factories, reduced use of cement, and fewer carbon dioxide emissions. Mohanty states that the innovation from the company is making houses faster and cheaper.This story shows how the startups are adopting sustainable methods for the construction industry by using industrial waste in an effective manner.
